New England Colonial, Reimagined - Gilmore Hire
Partnering with a local builder, we were entrusted to reimagine the layout and design of this classic 4- bedroom colonial.
With our expertise in space planning and kitchen design, we transformed the underutilized dining room into an expansive, family-friendly kitchen that flows seamlessly into the adjoining family room. The result is a connected hub of everyday living—perfect for gathering, entertaining, and creating memories.
Our design paired crisp white cabinetry with a deep blue island for contrast, layered with a mosaic tile
backsplash and a curated mix of chrome and black hardware. Custom cabinetry solutions were designed to maximize storage, ensuring this kitchen isn’t just beautiful, but also practical and tailored to the needs of a busy family.
THE CHALLANGE
This traditional 4-bedroom colonial, built with a formal dining room, no longer fit the lifestyle of a
modern family. The dining room sat unused, while the kitchen felt closed off and lacked storage. The
builder recognized the need for a new layout and brought us in to space plan and design a kitchen that
would be both functional and family-friendly.
OUR DESIGN SOLUTION
With our expertise in residential space planning and kitchen design, we reimagined the layout by removing the formal dining room and creating one large, open eat-in kitchen. This central gathering space was designed to flow seamlessly into the family room, becoming the true heart of the home.
We layered classic design elements with a modern sensibility: crisp white cabinetry paired with a rich blue island, a custom mosaic tile backsplash, and a thoughtful mix of chrome and black hardware. Every cabinet was designed with intention—maximizing storage, hiding clutter, and keeping daily life organized.
